 Sat 16 April : Lower Maze 3 Lisburn Distillery 1 ( Tariq Berry 2, Adam Crooks )
Lower Maze met Distillery at the bog rd for a 11.15 kick off last Saturday. Both teams started brightly but clear cut chances were scarse. The breakthrough came just after 15 minutes when Tarig Berry curled in a left foot shot from the egde of the box for a fine rare left foot finish. Rhys Cloughtery made a fine save just before the break and Maze finished one up at the break.
Maze made it 2 0 when a fine corner from Lee Parker fell to Tarig Berry's feet and Maze's top goal scorer finished well. After this goal Distillery started to apply pressure on the Maze defence and from a good run down the left hand side a shot parried of the post and the Maze's keepers back to make the score 2 1.
A fine attack from Maze ended with a corner being awarded from the left hand side and a great corner from Jamie Kidd was headed striaght in for a superb goal from Adam Crooks.
The game finished with Maze running out 3 1 winners but again another good game of football from 2 good teams.

Cup final opponents Dromara where next up in the league at the Bog rd on Monday night and despite have most of the play and getting an early goal from Jamie Kidd , Maze where not making the possesion count. as the score remained 1 nil , Maze new Dromara are good enough and created a few chances that would indicate this was not secured,  As the game drew on Maze finally got the the goal that was need , again from Jamie Kidd, A great run from Tariq Berry squared into the box for Pearce Hughes to flick out a delightful back heel to beat the goalkeeper at the near post. Maze continued to push forward and another Tariq Berry run was finished off as he fired into the bottom corner for his 45th goal of the season

Wednesday last , also seen the under 13s in action against Banbridge. Maze took the lead when Tariq Berry knocked on a threw ball and raced one on one with the keeper and slotted home . The second half saw Maze step it up and Tariq Berry hit a stunner of a second , havin picked up the ball in his own half knocking it past the first defender, taking the ball wide of the second and firing into the far top corner from outside the right hand side of the box. Tariq completed his Hat trick and Maze could have increased there lead with Lee Parker coming close and Adam Crooks hitting the cross bar.

Mon 28 March : Seagoe 0 Lower Maze 4( Tariq Berry 2, Jamie Kidd, Jack Snoddy )

Sat 26 March : Ballymena 2 Lower Maze 5 ( Jamie Kidd, Jake Mckee, Pierce Hughes, Tariq Berry 2)

Lower Maze stay within touching distant at the top of the lisburn juniour under 13 league in what is looking an exciting final few weeks . with numerous teams still able to win the league .  Starting brightly Maze should have taken an early lead when Lee Parker rounded the out-coming Ballymena goalkeeper only to see his shot canon off the cross bar. Further chances fell to Tariq Berry and Jamie KIdd but the finishing touch seemed to be missing . Ballymena played well , making he game difficult for the wee Maze and took a fortunate lead when a good shot from outside rhe box slipped through the Maze goalkeepers fingers. Half-time 1-0

The second half saw Lower Maze storm back into the game . straight from kick-off with a goal from Jamie Kidd, Maze took the lead when Jake Mckee sneaked in at the backpost to finish a loose ball. Ballymena continued to push and make life hard for Maze and a well worked equalizer seen the Maze defence caught napping. With the game seeming to slip away Maze regained the lead when a ball fired into the area beat the goalkeeper with a high bounce and Pierce Hughes finished it off with a header. Tariq Berry then completed the scoring with two goals in quick succession . A deserved victory for Maze all be it a flattering scoreline in the end .

Sat 26 Feb : Lower Maze 1 Ridgeway 1( Jack Snoddy )

Ridgeway Rovers made the journey from Belfast to the Bog Road on Saturday morning and would have had to get up early to make the trip, The Maze boys , playing at home could stay in bed a little longer and indeed they did. Not waking up till well into the second half it would seem.

Ridgeway came at Maze from the kick off and had an early chance with a break down the right was crossed in and a good header just over the bar. Lower Maze where second to every ball early on and passing was not to what we usually see from this Maze side, although take nothing away from a great Ridgeway performance. Maze did create some early chances and were awarded a penalty but a great save from the Ridgeway goalkeeper denied Maze the lead. The second half seen Ridgeway take the lead with a high effort beating Rhys Clougherty in the Maze goal. Maze battled away and with 5 minutes remaining won a free kick on the edge of the box . Lee Parker struck the ball , with the Ridgeway keeeper beaten and the ball heading into the corner , Jack Snoddy got a head to it to make sure of the goal. This game was far from over and both team has further chances with Rhys Clougherty in the Maze goal pulling off two fantastic saves to secure what could prove a valuable point . A great match but Maze know they can improve on this performance

Sat 19 Feb : Lower Maze 5 Lurgan 0 ( og, Jamie Kidd, Adam Crooks, Tariq Berry, Jake McKee )

Lower Maze meet Lurgan Town at Ballymacoss on Saturday, the game started with Lurgan taking the game to Maze. Once Maze got into there stride both teams were playing good football and pushing for a breakthough and a bit of fortune gave Maze the lead, Tarig Berry broke down the right and his right foot cross was put into the net by a Lurgan defender.

Shortly afterwards, a great shot from Jamie Kidd from the left edge of the box sailed over the goal keeper for a 2 0 lead at half time.

The second half started with Maze pushing for the win, after five minutes with great technique a shot from Adam Crooks made it 3 0  and settled the nerves.

A ball through from midfield left Lurgans central defender and Tarig Berry to battle for a 50 / 50 ball Tarig won the battle and calmly slotted past the keeper for a deserved goal.

Maze's fifth goal and perhaps the best started as a copy of the fourth, a ball from midfield was picked up outside the 18 yard box by Jake Mckee and after beating a number of defenders he calmly finished with style.

The game finished with sustained pressure from Lurgan pushing for a goal and they were unluckly not to find the net.

A good squad performance from Maze to keep up there pursuit of the league.

Sun 13 Feb : Lower Maze beat Lower Maze Youth .( Pierce Hughes 3, Adam Crooks 4, Tariq Berry 3, Ryan Scorer 2, Jamie Kidd, Rhys Clougherty, Matthew Dick, William Carey, Andrew Crooks )

Sat 12 Feb : NIBFA CUP: Lower Maze 2 Bertie Peacocks , Coleraine 0 ( Jamie Kidd , Tariq Berry )

Lower Maze under 13s welcomed Bertie Peacocks Youth from Coleraine to the Bog Road venue on Saturday in the Northern Ireland Boys FA Cup.
Bertie Peacocks currently playing in the National league took the game to Lower Maze right from the kick off , with fast and slick passing Lower Maze where chasing shadows and hardly got a kick in the first 15 minutes . Indeed Bertie's had the ball in the net as they raced down the right and slotted the ball past the out-rushing rhys clougherty in the Maze goal . As the ball was heading goalward a berties player made sure of it but he was to be offside . A lucky escape for the Maze . Maze began to play a bit themselves now although chances were few and far between for both sides with the defences playing well.
Maze broke the deadlock with a little bit of magic as Lee Parker playing in an unfamiliar left back position recieved the ball on the half way line ., with a cheeky chip setting the ball up , Parker volleyed a cross into the area where it was met at the far side of the box by the in rushing Jamie Kidd who fired the ball back across the goal and in off the far post .
The second half saw a different game with Lower Maze creating more chances and eventually getting a second when a William Carey free kick was wiped across the box , flicked on by Crooks and finished by in form Tariq Berry. Maze controlled most of the remainder of the game and as the game past beyond Berties , frustration creeped in with some hefty challenges being directed towards Maze players . Maze held out for a great result against a good Bertie Peacocks side.

Sat 5 Feb : Ballyclare 0 Lower Maze 2 ( Tariq Berry , Jamie Kidd )

Sat 29 Jan : Sunnyside 0 Lower Maze 0

After the high of the shield victory and the league win over Newhill , Lower Maze played out a 0-0 draw with a battling Sunnyside at a cold wind swept Moira park last Saturday. Mazes passing and first touch seemed to desert them and they didnt perform as they have in previous weeks although credit to Sunnyside who made life extremely diffucult for Lower Maze , closing down quickly and preventing Maze from creating any clear cut chances . Indeed Sunnyside could easily have taken a lead before half time only for a goal line clearance by Maze. Lower Mazes only positive chance on goal came late in the game as Jake Mckee challenged  a 50-50 ball with the Sunnyside goalkeeper , who spilled the ball only to collect at the second attempt .

Sat 15 Jan : Lower Maze 2 Newhill 1 ( Tariq Berry 2 )

Lower Maze took the honours in a hard fought match against Newhill at the Bog Rd . Not much has seperated these two sides in the previous meetings this season and that was again to prove the story . Maze took the lead with a ferious shot by Tariq Berry early on and maintained most of the possesion with the wind behind them in the first half . The second half saw Newhill challenge Maze more and they got there equalizer, Both teams had chances with Mazes Pierce Hughes just shooting wide and also coming close with a near post header. With about 5 minutes to play Adam Crooks quick footed the Newhill defence with a back heel to be brought down for a penalty . As in the shield final Tariq Berry kept his cool and slotted home from the spot . this could prove to be an important result  come the end of the season .

Sat 01 Jan : Lisburn Shield Final : Newhill 2 Lower Maze 4 ( Tariq Berry 3, Adam Crooks )

New years day 2011 will be remembered as the day Lower Maze junior FC collected their first trophy. It was a fitting end to the day which had started with a minutes silence in memory of Dylan Livingstone who as a player of this very side passed away recently, always in our thoughts this one is for you big Dylan.

Maze came up against a Newhill side that where currently undeafeted this season , a very strong and physical Newhill team that took the game to Maze from the start and had the better possesion in the first half without creating much in way of chances , down to an excellent centre back pairing of jack snoddy and ryan scorer , with Owen Bradford also putting in arguably his best performance in a Maze Shirt. Mid way through the first half Maze began to keep the ball and play the way they can and it was Tariq Berry in a fine bout of form that broke the deadlock, recieving the ball with his back to goal , holding off the Newhill defenders before spining to fire off his shot into the corner of the goal.  half time 1-0

Maze started the second half poorly when straight from kick off Newhill broke down the left and what seemed like a harmless cross was misjudged to be going wide by Rhys Clougherty in the Maze goal slipped in . The game went end to end at this point with both defences playing well but it was Maze who regained the lead when Newhill gave away a needless penalty . With Jamie Kidd breaking into the Penalty area but the ball running aimlessly to the goalkeeper only for the Newhill defender to push Kidd over . Tariq Berry firing home from the spot.

Tariq Berry sealed his hat trick and his 24th goal of the season with Lower Mazes third as a through ball from the hard working Jamie Kidd , Tariq then beat two Newhill defenders before firing the ball home .

With only minutes left Newhill pulled a goal back which they then built upon that initiative, with the referee then adding on 7 minutes due to substiutions etc the pressure was on . Newhill even managed to hit the post before the loose ball was then cleared by Ryan Scorer. As Maze broke it was Adam Crooks who finally put the game beyond Newhill . Well done to all the boys it was a great team effort from a squad not just a starting eleven that can hopefully build on this achievement .

Sat 11 Dec : shield semi final  Lower Maze 6 Shankill 3 (Tariq Berry 3, Jamie Kidd, Lee Parker, Josh Gibson )

Lower Maze under 13s qualified for their first ever final in their short time as a club after a competetive and at times heated match against shankill at the bog rd last weekend . Shankill seemed the more up for this match in the first half and had most of the early chances , however against the run of play Maze took the lead when Jamie Kidd latched on to a through ball and calmly rounded the keeper to pass the ball into the net . Maze extended their lead when a cross by Adam Crooks was headed in by Tariq Berry. Instead of taking control of the game at this stage a penalty was to get shankill back into the match , and storming back they came , with maze heads dropping shankill equalized and then took the lead with an outstanding free kick that  the Maze keeper could do nothing about.
Half time couldnt come quick enough for Lower Maze and this was definetly to be a game of two halves . Tariq Berry equalised for Maze with his second goal of the game and this put Lower Maze in the driving seat , Jamie Kidd who had an excellent performance in the Maze midfield beat 3 shankill defenders and fired a cross the box for Tariq Berry to complete his hat trick with a tap in . Tackles where flying in from both teams and at times the pressure of the occassion was showing on both sides ,but the referee had a good hold of the game and let things flow.
A Jake McKee cross was struck home by Lee Parker as maze made it 5-3. Jamie Kidd continued to make darting runs and as challenges came in ,probably should have had a penalty if he had gone down but he kept on his feet and squared for Crooks to get a shot . Josh Gibson completed the scoring for Lower Maze as his shot from out on the left went in off the post. A great match by both teams , hard fought and passionate.

Lower Mazes joy was to be short lived with the sad news of young Dylan Livingstone , The Commitee and players are saddened by the news that Dylan who played for the under 13 team has passed away after a battle with cancer . Our thoughts and prayers are with Dylans family at this sad time.

Sat 20 Nov : Banbridge 1 Lower Maze 1 ( Tariq Berry )

Sat 13 Nov : Ballymena 2 Lower Maze 4 ( Lee Parker 2, Jack Snoddy , Josh Gibson )

Sat 6 Nov : Ballymena 2 Lower Maze 2 ( maze win 3-2 aet ) ( Tariq berry 2, Adam Crooks )

Lower Maze narrowly squeezed past Ballymena at the recreational centre last saturday to remain the only local team in the under 13 shield semi finals.
Maze took the lead in the first half when Tariq Berry continued his fine form of late ran onto a through ball to slot past the outcoming Ballymena goalkeeper and seen his shot go in off the inside of the far post. Maze had most of the chances in the first half but failed to make this count . Ballymena played some good football themselves and scored a great equalizing goal when the left winger  broke down the Maze left and skipped past one, two , three maze challenges to finish well.
The second half seen Maze regain the lead as a Tariq Berry backheeled off the post and the rebound fell fourtunately back at his feet for him to prode home. Needless freekicks from careless maze play , allowed Ballymena back into the game as one of these was only partially cleared and fell to the Ballymena forward to fire home.
In the first  period of extra time Maze got the important third goal from Adam Crooks to set up a Semi Final match against Shankill who seen off Lisburn Distillery in their match.

Sat 30 Oct : Shankill v Lower Maze : Match abandoned

Sat 23 Oct : Lower Maze 8 Seagoe 0 ( Tariq Berry 3, Adam Crooks 2, Lee Parker, Josh Gibson, Jaqke McKee )

Sat 16 Oct : Lower Maze 6 Ridgeway 2  ( Tariq Berry 3, Adam Crooks, Jack Snoddy, Lee Parker )

Tariq Berry scored his second hat-trick in consecutive matches as Lower Maze came up against a hard working Ridgeway Rovers in a match that in no way was reflected by the scoreline. Maze came right out of the starting blocks and stormed into a two goal lead with goals from Tariq Berry and Adam Crooks. Mid way through the first half Ridgeway pulled a goal back with a shot that squeezed into the net through the goalkeepers near post. This was to give Ridgeway a lift and they got the equilizerwith a looping shot from 30 yards that dropped intothe top corner . Ridgeway continued to push forward and had most of the possesion for the remainder of the half.

The second half seen Lower Maze regain the lead as a free kick  fired across the box towards the far post by Jack Snoddy found the corner of the net. This game was far from over and Ridgeway  should have equilized for a second time when owen bradford handled the ball for a penalty. With the penalty missed Ridgeway created numerous chances and only a great save from reece in the Maze goal and a headed goalline clearance from Owen Bradford prevented  Ridgeway from  turning this game in their favour . This was to be a wake up call to the Maze boys , Tariq Berry broke through to fire home his second of the game and relieve the pressure . a third for Tariq and a great strike from outside the box ensured Maze took the points , however Ridgeway could feel hard done by a 6-2 scoreline

Sat 9 Oct : Lower Maze 7 Loughgall 1 ( Tariq Berry 3, Adam Crooks , Andy Crooks 2, Jamie Kidd )

Lower Maze progressed to the second round of  the lisburn shield in the under 13 section with a convincing win over Loughgall at Bog Road last saturday. The deadlock was broke early in the first half when a short  corner was wiped back to the edge of the area and fell for Adam  Crooks to fire home from 20 yards. Tariq Berry broke through the Loughgall defence and appeared to take one touch too many, however he kept his composure and chipped the outcoming goalkeeper for Mazes second. Andy crooks got himself on the scoresheet as he wiped a ball in from the corner and the Loughgall keeper could only palm into the net. Jamie Kidd making his first start for Lower Maze had numerous chances and finally scored before Andrew Crooks got his second with a fabulous half volley that left the Loughgall keeper stranded .

The second half saw Lower Maze extended their lead as Tariq Berry scored with an almost identical goal to his first. Loughgall kept their heads up and kept trying and where rewarded with a well taken free kick that found the bottom corner of the Maze goal. Tariq Berry completed his hat trick as a short corner was fired into the box by Jamie Kidd and as Loughgall attempted to clear Tariq proded the ball home . This was to be his last kick of the match , his reward , substitued.

First up saw Glentoran come to the Bog Rd on Wednesday night . Lower Maze had most of the possesion in a flowing first half and towards the end of the half seen an onslaught onto the Glentoran goal with chance after chance being created . Josh Gibson , Pierce Hughes both having chances and Tariq berry forcing a great save out of the Glentoran keeper before Pierce finally broke the deadlock after being put through by Tariq Berry to calmly place the ball past the outcoming goalkeeper . In the second half Maze resumed where they left off with Pierce Hughes scoring his second of the game, and Adam crooks firing home from outside the box. Glentoran managed to pull a goal back only to see Lower Maze kill the match off with Lee Parker scoring almost immeadiately.

Saturday seen an almost identical type of game as Lower Maze swept aside Sunnyside at a rain swept Moira. The tone of the match was set right from kick off with Jake McKee breaking through only to see his effort go over the bar. Lower Maze passing was as good as has been in any match and the chances kept being created. finally the break through Maze required with Lee Parker scoring from otside the box. Sunnyside kept trying and played some good football themselves but with out causing ryan scorer, scott magill, owen bradford and jack snoddy many problems in the Maze defence. The second half and again Lower Maze continued to create and as a great pass found Pierce Hughes out on the left and he drilled a cross through the box for Tariq Berry to force home with his chest .   The Lisburn Junior Invitational league kicked off last Saturday , With Lower Maze FC taking on league new comers Newhill. Lower Maze ,hoping to continue on the good form that seen them finish third in the league last year , knew they would be in for a tough game having previously played the West Belfast team in the recent Valley Cup 7 a sides .

Despite having most of the early possesion and creating some good chances Lower Maze failed to make it count , with chances coming close from Josh Gibson , Adam Crooks and Pierce Hughes. Newhill worked hard and after a mistake in the Maze defence allowed the Newhill striker to break quickly down the right and fire home from the edge of the box . Maze continued to press and and a looping ball into the box saw Pierce Hughes pull away from the defender to score a rare header. Owen Bradford came close  to giving Maze the lead when a short corner was controlled and then struck the post.

Both teams played good football and Lower Maze took the lead when Jake McKee latched onto a through ball and drilled home a fatastic shot from outside the box . Lower Maze joy was to be short lived as Newhill equalised when awarded a free kick from all of 30 yards and it was hit superbly into the top corner of the Maze goal . With 7 minutes remaining Newhill snatched victory with another well taken goal . Lower Maze battled to the end and could have had an equaliser when Jack Snoddy hit the post . A great game of football for the Lisburn League , a good result for Newhill and Lower Maze left to rue chances missed.
